Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com)DC3 Assistant Professor of English Kathryn O’Neil, with help from the DC3 Foundation office, recently applied to receive a grant from the Proctor and Gamble Higher Education Grant Program. The program provides support to accredited higher education institutions to help them better prepare students for success. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 are awarded for the term of one year. On December 20, 2017, after a competitive selection process, DC3 was selected to receive a grant in the amount of $10,000 to support Technology-Enhanced Classrooms. The grant will come from the P & G Fund of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation.

“I am overjoyed that Procter and Gamble have generously agreed to help us here at Dodge City Community College increase the diversity of thought for Kansas’s future leaders by supplying access to technology in the classroom,” said Professor O’Neil. “I will be equipping my classroom with ten computers, for the use of the students who do not own their own laptop. It’s meant to increase technology access for students who are underprivileged, while freeing up space in the labs so they can be used as labs, not classrooms.”

When asked for comment, Dean of Academics, Dr. Jane Holwerda said, “I’m very proud. Professor O’Neill wanted to provide computers for students, and she found a way to do just that. For her writing instruction, and for future issues of the online literary magazine she sponsors, this classroom will be a great base for student success! And, you know what? Her winning grant application demonstrates the value of good writing!”

DC3 President, Dr. Harold Nolte agreed. “We are so grateful to Professor O’Neil for her hard work and passion for students’ success. This grant will provide wonderful opportunities to our student body for years to come.”
