Broncbuster baseball swept by Butler

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College baseball team fell to Butler Saturday in a home double-header. The Grizzlies handled the Broncbusters 8-2 and 13-7 to sweep the series. Butler won both games Thursday in El Dorado 5-4 and 12-11.

Game One

Butler jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to back to back RBI singles for Javier Pena and Connor Hurst. GCCC responded in the bottom of the first Clint Allen led off with a triple and was brought home on a fielders choice by ReJean Bourget to make it 2-1. From there Drake Norton(4-1) settled in on the mound for the Grizzlies holding the Broncbusters to just two runs on six hits. Butler(15-5, 7-1) would stretch the lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Cade Morrow. In the fifth Javier Pena hit an RBI triple and Connor Hurst then brought him with a fielders choice making it 5-1. Then in the sixth with two outs and two on base Keone Givens his a grounder at second baseman Gabriel Rivera that went through his legs and rolled all the way to the outfield wall, three runs would score as Givens came all the way around making it 8-1. The error was one of four for GCCC. The Broncbusters(15-11, 3-5) scored one in the bottom of the sixth on a Corbin Truslow single.

Javier Pena led Butler going 2-4 with a triple, singe and two RBI. Connor Hurst went 1-4 with a single and two RBI. For GCCC Corbin Truslow was 1-3 with a single and RBI. Jacob Douglas got the loss(3-3), giving up five runs and eight hits in 5 innings.

Game 2

GCCC committed seven errors and fell behind big early. Butler jumped out a 9-0 lead after 3 innings, of those nine runs only two were earned, errors led to the other seven runs. In the top of the fifth Javier Pena had an RBI triple to make it 10-0. The Broncbuster offense woke up in the fifth scoring four runs on an RBI single by Robbie Young, and RBI walk from Tyrus Barclay and a two RBI single from Darien Burns.  GCCC would score two runs in the bottom of the 6th to make it 10-6. Butler would stretch the lead again in the top of the 7th with an RBI single from Keone Givens and a two RBI single from Jackson Soule to make it 13-6. Broncbuster would score a run in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI fielders choice from Clint Allen.

James Leitch(3-0) got the win for Butler going 4 1/3 inning and allowing four runs on eight hits. Ryder Yakel(0-2) got the loss for GCCC pitching just 2 innings allowing seven runs, but just two earned runs and two hits. Keone Givens led Butler at the plate going 3-4 with three singles and three RBI. Javier Pena went 2-4 with a single, triple and two RBI. Tyrus Barclay led the Broncbusters going 2-4 with two RBI.

GCCC is back in action at home Thursday hosting Barton Community College. The double header will begin at 1 p.m.
