GCCC baseball swept at Butler

El Dorado, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College baseball team lost two games in walk off fashion Thursday at Butler. In the first game the Broncbusters blew a 4-3 lead in the bottom the 7th to fall 5-4 and in the second game they blew an 11-8 lead in the bottom of the 9th eventually losing in the 10th 12-11.

Game One

The Broncbusters(15-9, 3-3) got off to a good start jumping out to a 3-0 lead after 3 innings. In the bottom of the 4th Butler responded scoring two runs on an RBI double by Alex Brough and an RBI single by Jack Maki. GCCC would add a run in the top of the 5th with a solo homrun from Corbin Truslow making it 4-2. In the bottom of the 6th Brough came up big again for the Grizzlies with a solo homerun making it 4-3. In the bottom of the 7th Nick Iossi would get the first two batters out before walking Keone Givens and Javier Pena, then Connor Hurst hit an RBI single to tie the game at 4. Jackson Soule then hit a grounder up the middle and dove to beat the throw at first from shortstop Ty Lightley to drive in the game winning run.

Austin Stone pitched 5 strong innings for GCCC giving up just 2 runs on 5 hits. Ryan Miller(1-1) came in for the final two innings for Butler and allowed no base runners to earn the win. Alex Brough led the Grizzlies(13-5, 5-1) at the plate going 2-3 with a double, homerun and 2 RBI. Robbie Young and Corbin Truslow both hit solo homeruns for the Broncbusters.

Game Two

GCCC bumbled their way to a loss in game two, committing 8 errors. The Broncbusters led 5-3 going into the bottom of the 4th with two outs CF Clint Allen would drop back to back routine fly balls, each bringing in a run and tying the game at 5. Javier Pena would then hit a two run homer to give Butler the lead 7-5. GCCC entered the top of the 6th trailing 7-6 then exploded for four runs thanks to 2 RBI double from Robbie Young and RBI fielders choice from Chris Lara and an RBI single from Darien Burns to make it 10-7. GCCC entered the bottom of the 9th with an 11-8 lead and then the errors struck again.

To lead off Soule would reach on a field error by SS Ty Lightley, A. Brough reached on a fielder’s choice to third base; J. Soule advanced to second on a muffed throw by 2B Griffin Brunson. Jackson Soule would then score on a throwing error by P Brandt Sobczak making it 11-9. Parker Base then hit a two run homer to tie the game at 11 and force extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th with one out Javier drew a walk, then Nick Iossi tried to catch Pena in a rundown as he tried to steal second, but Iossi’s throw was wild and ended up in the GCCC bullpen, Pena would come all the way around to score the game winning run.

Ryan Miller picked up another win for Butler pitching the final two inning and Iossi picked up his second loss of the day. Pena, Hurst and Soule all had 2 RBI for Butler. Truslow hit a grand slam homerun and Robbie Young went 3-6 with a HR, 2B and 3 RBI.

The Broncbusters will host Butler on Saturday for a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
