Red Demons sweep Great Bend on senior night

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City High School baseball team swept Great Bend 13-7 and 11-10 on senior night Tuesday. In between the two games the Red Demons recognized seniors Kaden Riekenberg, Derick Blansett, Roman Rodriguez and Preston Moon.

Game one

Great Bend jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI sac fly by Eddie Bujuanda. Dodge City would take the lead in the second on an RBI single by Derick Blansett and a two RBI single by Kaden Riekenberg to make it 3-1. The Panthers would respond in the third with a two RBI single by Koy Brack and an RBI single by Chance Perry to take a 4-3 lead. Great Bend then added a run in the fifth to make it 5-3. The bats came alive for the Red Demons in the bottom half scoring six runs including four straight run scoring hits, an RBI single by Alden Knedler, a two RBI triple by Noah Sowers and RBI singles by Omar Don Juan and Cody Ibarra to make it 9-5. The Panthers scored two runs in the sixth on singles by Townsend Kurth and Calan Haberman to pull within two, 9-7. Then Dodge City added four runs in the bottom half making it 13-7.

Kaden Riekenberg led the way for Dodge City going 2-2 with two RBI. Noah Sowers was 1-3 with a triple and two RBI.

Game two

The Panthers jumped out in front again on an RBI single by Eddie Bujuanda and an error allowed another run to score making it 2-0. Wyatt Childress put Dodge on the board in the bottom half with an RBI groundout. Great Bend would add another run in the top of the third on an RBI single by Chance Perry making it 3-1. The Red Demons exploded for seven runs in the bottom half making it 8-3, including an error by Haberman in centerfield that allowed two runs and a two RBI single by Omar Don Juan. From there the Panthers began to chip away scoring two runs on a single by Koy Brack in the fourth, an RBI single by Riley Smith in the fifth and three straight RBI singles in the sixth to take a 10-8 lead.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh Cody Ibarra delivered an RBI single for Dodge to make it 10-9. Ty Bacon would score on a passed ball to tie the game at 10, then Derick Blansett reach on an error by the shortstop Kurth that brought in the winning run.

Dodge City will close the regular season Friday at Wichita Southeast, where they will also play Derby in a triangular.
