A’s trounce Derby following lights delay

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s bounce back Saturday night with a 13-3 win over the Derby Twins. The game was delayed for 20 minutes in the bottom of the fourth inning because the lights went out.

The Twins struck first on an RBI single by Wes Anderson in the top of the second. Following the light delay in the fourth the A’s exploded for seven runs, thanks in part to RBI singles by Conner Van Cleave, Carlos Arrellano and Kyle Cullen to make it 7-1. Derby got one run back in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Zach Smith to make it 7-2.

Dodge City(4-4) score four more runs in the seventh including a three-run homer by Jake Cruce that probably still hasn’t landed, making it an 11-2 lead. Marques Paige had an RBI single in the eighth to make it 11-3. In the bottom half Daylan Nanny had a two-run single to extend the lead to 13-3.

Brady Rodriguez(2-0) got the win for the A’s going five innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Brock Knoten pitched the last four innings and surrendered just one run on one hit and struck out five. Conner Dove(1-1) got the loss for Derby(6-4) pitching 3.1 innings and allowing seven runs on five hits.

Jake Cruce led Dodge City at the plate with a homerun and four RBI. Daylan Nanny was 1-2 with a single and two RBI.

The A’s play the series finale Sunday night at home at 7 p.m. pregame will begin at 6:45 on Super Hits 95.5 and swksradio.com
