Trent Specht named new golf coach at GCHS

Garden City, KS-Garden City High School has announced that Trent Specht will be the new golf coach for the 2018-19 season.  He was hired to be a math teacher at GCHS this fall.  He was approved by the Board of Education at the July 9 meeting.

“This is a great program,” Specht said. “Both the girls and boys have a lot of talent, so that was a big factor in making my decision.”

Specht graduated high school from Southwestern Heights in 2009, received his Associates degree from Dodge City Community College in 2011, while also being a member of the golf team. He continued his golf and educational pursuits at Ashford University where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics, while also earning coSIDA All American honors in golf. He is currently working towards obtaining his Masters in Instructional Technology through Fort Hays State University.

“I bring experience to the table,” Specht said. “Obviously playing college golf and learning under a few really good coaches, helps a lot.”

Specht’s prior experiences includes: teaching high school math at Holcomb High School for four and a half years.  He also coached volleyball (2 years), girls’ and boys’ golf (2 years), boys’ basketball (4 years) and middle school girls’ basketball (1 year).

The first day of school for the 2018-19 school year will be Tuesday, August 14th, with a half-day orientation for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth and tenth grades and all students new to Garden City Public Schools.  The first full day of school for the district will be Wednesday, August 15, 2018.  All classes will be in session for the start of the 2018-19 school year.
