Conquistadors get blown out at Iowa Central

FORT DODGE, IA — The Dodge City Community College football team scored on their opening drive of the game, but that would be the only promising thing that happened on Saturday afternoon at Dodger Stadium. The Conqs were crushed by the Iowa Central Tritons, 58-7.

Iowa Central took an early 7-0 lead after a 14-play, 75-yard drive to open up the contest. Dodge City would then get a great return into Triton territory on the ensuing kickoff. The Conqs then found the end zone on a 1-yard run from Anthony Watkins to tie the game up at 7 apiece with 4:23 to go in the first quarter.

The wheels then fell off the bus for Dodge City (3-5, 1-3), as they would punt on their next six drives. Iowa Central on the other hand was just getting warmed up. The Tritons scored on their first eight drives of the game, seven of which were touchdowns and the other being a field goal.

Iowa Central quarterback Justin Blake accounted for over 400 yards of offense just by himself. Blake finished with five touchdown passes and two rushing scores on the day, both were career highs for the sophomore quarterback.

Anthony Watkins led the Conqs offense with under 70 rushing yards in the game.

Dodge City will be back in action on Saturday, as they play host to No. 4 Hutchinson (7-1, 5-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City. Pregame coverage will start at 12:30 p.m. on 98.1 FM KSKZ, westernkansasnews.com/z98/ and on the Z98 mobile app.
