Gray Count crash kills 1

GRAY COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Gray County has killed one. The accident happened just before 2:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 50, 19 miles west of Kansas Highway 23.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2009 Ford Pickup Truck driven by Gilberto Vital, 20, of Dodge City was headed westbound on U.S. 50 when he crossed over the center line, and struck a 2011 Toyota Car driven by Alice F. Ochs, 66, of Garden City. The two vehicles collided head-on.

Ochs was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City where she later died from injuries sustained.

Vital reported little if no injuries and was not taken to the hospital via ambulance. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. Ochs was reportedly not wearing her safety restraint.
