Scott City boys take third state title in four years, girls lead area with sixth place finish

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The weekend may have been longer than expected, but the Scott City track team was able to dominate the field at the Class 3A State Track & Field Championships at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.

The Beavers had to wait until Sunday to see the meet get finished, as they repeat as state champs, and won their third in the last four seasons, and the seventh in program history. Scott City had 101 points, while Smoky Valley was second with 50 points. It was the most points scored by the Beavers in a state track meet, and the widest margin over the runner-up in their seven state championships.

Marshall Faurot took home three golds, winning the 110M Hurdles, and breaking a state meet record in the Pole Vault and won the High Jump. The 4x400M Relay team broke a meet record.

On the girls side, the Lady Beavers finished in sixth place, led by the second place finish in the 4x400M Relay that took second place. Nemaha Central won the state meet for a second straight year. Cimarron won the championship in the 4x800M Relay.
