WOMEN: Dodge City 70, Cloud 65

DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City Conquistador Women’s Basketball Team hasn’t beat the Cloud County T-Birds at home, or on the road, in close to 10 years. On Saturday afternoon, that record was changed thanks to an outstanding performance in the 1st and 3rd quarters. The Lady Conqs are always hot in the 1st quarter of every game but then seem to cool off midway through the first half and Saturday was no different. The Conqs managed to not lose the lead they built in the first quarter but went into the halftime break tied with Cloud County at 33. The contest remained close throughout the second half and even had four lead changes leading into the fourth quarter. The Conqs were led by Sydney Thurwalker with a game high 23 points and team high 10 rebounds. The Conqs shot 42% from FG, 15% from 3PT and 60% from the FT line. The Conqs improve their overall record to 7-4 and KJCCC record to 2-2.

The Conquistadors will next travel to Iola KS Wednesday to face the Allen Red Devils (6-7/1-3) at 5:30PM before finishing out the semester schedule with a trip to Levelland TX to face the 13-0 #2 South Plains Texans Sunday afternoon.

MEN: Cloud 79, Dodge City 69

DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City Conquistador Men faced what would turn out to be a tougher than anticipated Cloud County Men’s team Saturday afternoon in the second of two games against the T-Birds from Concordia. The Conqs started the game strong with precise exterior shooting and solid rebounding in the paint and managed to take a five point lead into the locker room at the break. The second half was a completely different story. The T-Birds would capitalize off of the turnover game with 21 points off of the Conqs 18 turnovers. The Conqs would only manage 12 points off of the T-Birds 18 turnovers. The T-Birds would outshoot the Conqs from the field, behind the 3PT line and from the FT line. The young Conq team was just no match for the more experienced T-Birds from Cloud County. The Conqs shot 34% from FG range, 31% from behind the 3PT line and 34% from the FT line. The bright spot for the Conqs was the game high scoring Quindarius Thomas with 21 points.

The Conquistadors will next travel to Iola KS Wednesday to face the Allen Red Devils (9-4/4-0)) at 8:00PM before finishing out the semester schedule with a home game Friday night against Redlands Community College (4-8) at 7:00PM here at the Student Activity Center.
