GCHS Art Students Receive Awards

Garden City High School art students participated in the Annual Western Kansas Scholastic Art (WKSA) Competition and Exhibition 2020 and recently received word on how they ranked in the competition. The students work will be on display at the Stauth Museum in Montezuma, Kansas January 28th – February 20th.
Garden City High School winners include:
Gold Key winner is Angelina West, “Happy Place”, painting.
Silver Key winners include: Levi Schwaderer, “Creeper Teacher”, sculpture and Alex Garcia, “Mind over Money”, sculpture.
Honorable Mentions include: Levi Schwaderer, “here is Great Gandeur in this View of Life”, painting and “Gigantor”, sculpture; Isia Waboshi, “Dark Pear”, painting; and Cecilia Vazquez-Paredes, “Peaceful”, drawing.
Gold Key is highest award in Scholastic. Any piece that receives a Gold Key goes on to the national competition in Washington DC. To get a piece of art into a Scholastic show it has to receive an award.
The WKSA is an affiliate of the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards show and all American Vision and Gold Key award winning artworks go on and compete nationally. The WKSA Awards contest is open to students in grades 7-12 from the counties in western Kansas.
Garden City High School art teachers are: Josh Greenberg, Kaitlin Kruse, Sandra Naeve, and Candace Waltz.
