GCPD Press Release – Attempted Murder

On January 29th at approximately 1:30 PM, Officers of the Garden City Police Department
were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Fulton Ave in reference to a battery-in-progress
between a man and a woman.

Upon arrival, officers located Tommy Lee Aguilar (39), 1206 E Chestnut Ave, Garden
City, KS, and a woman known to Aguilar. Aguilar was detained on the scene and
separated from the woman.

Investigation revealed a physical fight occurred between the two at a prior location in
Garden City. The woman tried to get away from Aguilar and fled to the area of 1200 East
Fulton Avenue, where officers arrived on scene and quickly intervened, immediately
taking Aguilar into custody.

The woman sustained multiple injuries to include significant injuries as a result of being
strangled and beaten by Aguilar. EMS was called to the scene to treat the woman. The
woman later sought treatment for her injuries at St. Catherine Hospital.

Aguilar was arrested and lodged at the Finney County Jail. An affidavit was filed with the
Finney County Attorney’s Office requesting charges of Attempted Murder in the 2nd
degree, Aggravated Domestic Battery, Violation of a Protection Order, and Interference of
a Law Enforcement Officer.
