Scott City boys first, girls second at Greeley County Invitational

Tribune, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Running in their second meet of the season, the Scott City cross country team ventured west Saturday morning for the Greeley County Invitational in Tribune. It would be a good early challege on a cool morning, but the Beavers saw good results from their squad. The boys would take their second straight team title of the year, while the girls finished second place in the team race.

For the boys, Scott City would battle for the top spot with the defending Class 2A state champion Stanton County squad. The Beavers edged the Trojans by nine points at 34-43, and Lakin placed third with 51 points. Leading the way for Scott City was Roberto Apodaca with a third place finish in a time of 18:23.40, Aaron Armendariz was right behind him in fourth place in a time of 18:18:42.80. Jaxson Kough placed ninth (18:56.10), Anthony Wolfe 10th (19:09.10), Kevin Dominguez-Peregrino was 11th (19:16.20), Joe McCleary placed 16th (19:33.00), and Dylan Duff place 21st (20:12.90).

On the girls side, Stanton County, who was the defending 2A state champions won the meet with 25 points, followed by the Lady Beavers with 41 points and Oakley was in third with 71 points. Leading the way for Scott City was Emma Wheeler, who placed fourth in a time of 22:23.50, and Brinlie Stevens placed fifth with a time of 22:27.80. Megan Vance finished in ninth place (23:22.40), Kairae Berry was 10th (23:35.20), Macy Brown placed 13th (23:57.40), Kate Rogers was 31st (26:54.00) and Alivia Noll finished in 33rd (27:04.40).
