New Broncbuster Basketball Coach Rand Chappell Introduced Today at Press Conference

Garden City-(westernkansasnews.com) In a press conference this morning at Garden City Community college, Broncbuster Athletic Director Bob Larson and College President Dr. Herbert Swender introduced the new men’s Basketball Coach for the coming year. The former head coach at the University of Central Arkansas, Rand Chappell will take over the Buster program, after former Coach Kris Bauman left in mid-May for Trinity Valley Texas at Athens, Texas for the same position. Coach Chappell brings a wealth of experience to Garden City having served in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference early in his career at Labette Community College and then taking it to the highest level of Division I at Central Arkansas. He is looking forward to the opportunity to return to the Jayhawk Conference and knows that recruiting has different requirements at this level but is confident about where the program is now and how it will look in the coming 2012-2013 season and made these comments.(Photo courtesy GCCC Media Relations)

Coach Chappell has collected a career record of 347-183 during his tenure and led six teams to the NCAA Division II National Tournaments and won more than 20 games in each season for 12 consecutive years. Broncbuster Athletic Director Bob Larson stated, that they had several quality applicants, but Coach Chappell’s name just kept rising to the top of the selection process.
