Topeka, Kan. (KSHSAA)–The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the KSHSAA is proud to announce Assistant Executive Director Cheryl Gleason has been selected to Chair the NFHS Volleyball Rules Committee. Gleason will Chair the committee for four years starting January 2013.
Gleason’s primary responsibility will be monitoring volleyball rule recommendations that come from state associations, coaches, and officials throughout the nation. The former high school volleyball coach for 13 years will be the Chair of a committee comprised of 10 members including eight section representatives. The committee meets annually to discuss a survey of purposed rule changes or clarifications by high school officials, coaches, and state associations. Members of USA Volleyball are also in attendance at the meeting to help make sure the high school rules are parallel with the college and professional rules.
“Volleyball is in a good place,” said Gleason. “I am happy to be a part of something that will continue to help volleyball be a safe and enjoyable sport.” Gleason has served the KSHSAA for 23 years including 20 years as the volleyball administrator.
Before being elected chair, Gleason served on the NFHS volleyball rules committee for four years. She was selected to chair the committee by the NFHS Board of Directors after being nominated by the KSHSAA Executive Director, Gary Musselman.
“Cheryl is highly qualified to serve in this leadership role,” said Musselman. “Her experience, attention to detail and organizational skills will serve the sport and NFHS well. We are very proud of her as a representative of Kansas.”
