Several SWK Rodeo Athletes are Competing at GCCC for 2012

Garden City KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – This year’s GCCC women’s team includes Kendra Lay, Pueblo, CO., breakaway roping and team roping; Shelby Leonhard, Oskaloosa, barrel racing, goat tying and breakaway roping; Emilee Stegman, Holcomb, barrel racing; Mercedes Trenary, Salida, CO., breakaway roping and goat tying; and Paige Wallace, Holcomb, barrel racing and breakaway roping. In addition to Bitner, Davis and Nicholson, the men’s team is made up of Hunter Basye, Arlington, tie down roping and team roping; Jeb Buller, Pueblo, CO., tie down roping and team roping; Cayden Chumley, Hesperus, CO., team roping; and Ty Jones-Davis, Abbeyville, tie down roping and team roping. Others on the men’s roster include Zach Leininger, LaJunta, CO., tie down roping, team roping and steer wrestling; Jacey Mahin, Montezuma, team roping; Zach Nicely, Golden, CO., bareback riding; Logan Patterson, Kim, CO., bareback riding, tie down roping and team roping; Billy Peters, Sublette, team roping; Taylor Schotte, Marysville, team roping; Linden Stueve, Olpe, team roping; Salvador Torres, Garden City, team roping; Trenton Turner, Springfield, CO., tie down roping and team roping; Coleton Valentine, Syracuse, team roping; Logan Vick, Byers, CO., tie down roping, steer wrestling and team roping; and Keenan Wahlert, LaJunta, CO., steer wrestling.
Davis competes in tie down roping as well as team roping and saddle broncs. Marrissa Amos, Bennett, CO., and Scott Heiman, Garden City, are student assistants for 2012.

The coming events for GCCC include the Pratt Community College Rodeo Oct. 12-14 and the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo in Alva, Okla., Nov. 1-3. After a winter break, Garden City and the other Central Plains teams will resume action next Feb. 22-24 at the Kansas State University Rodeo in Manhattan, followed by the lone home event of the year, the 45th Annual GCCC Intercollegiate Rodeo March 1-3.
The balance of the spring segment includes the Fort Scott Community College Rodeo March 8-10; the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo April 11-13 in Weatherford, Okla.; the Fort Hays State University Rodeo April 19-21 in Hays; and the Panhandle State University Rodeo April 25-27 in Guymon, Okla. Top teams and riders who qualify will meet June 9-15 at the 2013 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., drawing competitors from all 11 regions of the NIRA.
