Area Volleyball Teams Have Rough Day at State Tournaments

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–All three southwest Kansas Area Volleyball teams involved in their respective state tournaments were unable to advance out of pool play Friday.

In Emporia, the site of Class 2A, Kiowa County came in as the third seed, but left without a match victory, The Lady Mavericks fell to Pratt-Skyline 25-20, 25-22, Hill City 23-25, 25-19, 25-14 and Jefferson County North 12-25, 25-23, 25-20. Kiowa County finishes their season at 35-7. Jefferson County North won their pool and will face Ell-Saline in one semi-final tomorrow, while Hill City takes on Washington County in the other.

At the Class 1A-Division I Tournament in Hays, Bucklin would wind up going 1-2 on the day, and unable to get out of their pool. The Lady Red Aces fell to Hoxie 25-16, 22-25, 25-18, dropped a match to Centralia 21-25, 25-7, 25-18, and defeated Waverly 13-25, 25-23, 25-21 to end their season at 26-13. Centralia will take on St. John and Hoxie faces Olpe in the semi-finals Saturday afternoon.

Also in Hays, the Class 1A-Division II Tournament was unfriendly to the Ingalls Lady Bulldogs. Ingalls went 1-2, and dropped their first match to Wheatland/Grinnell 25-20, 23-25, 25-12, defeated Elyria Christian 25-14, 25-18, and fell to Baileyville B&B 25-11, 23-25, 25-13. The Lady Bulldogs finished their season at 31-11. Saturday’s semi-finals will feature Baileyville B&B vs Wilson and Wheatland/Grinnell vs Argonia.
