Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Dalton Buehler’s 80-yard run on the first play of the game set the tone for the Scott City Beavers, as they collect their second shutout victory in three games with a 58-0 trouncing of the TMP-Marian Monarchs on Senior Night at Darner Field.

Buehler scored on runs of 80 and nine yards in the first quarter. His first score was 13 seconds into the game and at the 37-second mark of the opening period. Also in the first quarter, Scott City saw Brett O’Neil score on a 39-yard run on an option keeper at the 9:24 mark and Tyler Hess on a 17-yard scamper with 3:40 remaining in the opening quarter. Also included were four O’Neil extra point kicks, and it was 28-0 Beavers after the opening quarter.

The second quarter saw Dalton Buehler run in his third score of the night from 31 yards out with 9:38 remaining before halftime. O’Neil’s extra point made it 35-0. It was 38-0 Scott City when Brett O’Neil connected on a 22-yard field goal, and Tius Price found paydirt from nine yards out with nine seconds to go before intermission. Devyn Eggleston ran in the two-point conversion after a delay in the kick to make it 46-0 Scott City at recess.

In the second half, it was a running clock, which was agreed on if the game was at least a 45-point margin in the second half. With 4:50 to go in the third quarter, senior Alex Kough scored from 15 yards out, his first touchdown of the year to make it 52-0 after a missed extra point. Scott City scored one more time with 9:21 to go in the game on a three-yard plunge from Paco Banda. The extra point was blocked, and the final was 58-0 Beavers.

This was Scott City’s largest margin of victory since a 57-0 victory over Larned in week seven of the 1994 season, and the 58 points were the most scored by the Beavers since they defeated TMP-Marian 58-8 in 1996.

The Beavers defense was solid and allowed only one first down of the game, and forced the Monarchs into 10 punt. Thomas More Prep was held to minus seven yards of offense unofficially. Scott City’s Brett O’Neil was 3-of-4 for 85 yards. Dalton Buehler had 150 yards rushing on just seven carries and three touchdowns. With the win and a Russell loss, Scott City is now 8-0 on the year, 2-0 in District 15 play, and clinched the district title.  The Beavers will play at Russell on Thursday night at 7 pm to wrap up their regular season. TMP fell to 2-6 overall, 1-1 in district play, and still has a chance to take the second place spot in the district, as they host Hoisington Thursday.
