All-WAC Football Selections Include 10 Buffaloes and 7 Red Demons

Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – The 2012 All-Western Athletic Conference Football selections have been released and 10 Garden City High School Buffaloes were chosen along with 7 Dodge City Players. The Garden City Buffaloes selected as first team offense included offensive linemen seniors Mitch Moore, Ben Blood and tight end Taylor Foley. On the Defensive side of the ball, it was seniors Andres Rivas and Brady Bean chosen first team defense. Honorable mention selections included senior defensive backs Logan Dechant, Denton Keller and junior Hunter Delgado. Offensive players chosen for honorable mention for the Buffs included junior quarterback Greyson Tempel, and junior wide receiver Dustin Tempel. The Garden City Buffaloes finished the 2012 season at 5-4 and missed the play-offs for the first time in 3 years since Brian Hill took over the program. It was also a three way tie for the runner-up spot in the conference with Garden City, Great Bend and Dodge City all tied with 2-2 marks. The Dodge City Red Demons upset the Buffaloes 24-20 in the infamous “Hatchet Game” this past season, and received the post season bid as the runner-up in 6A District #8 behind #1 Hutchinson. The Red Demons placed 7 players on the All-WAC teams, including first team offensive players with seniors Dakota Duckett and Justin Gemaehlich and first team defensive back senior Taylor Murphy. The Dodge City honorable mention selections included junior quarterback Kelan Newton, senior running back Parker Davis, senior wide receiver Jordan Doan and senior kicker Alfredo Hernandez. David Cardinal senior running back from Hays was chosen as the “Player of the Year” and Indians Coach Gaary Cornelson was selected as “Coach of the Year”
