Garden City Buffaloes Dominate State Tournament to Win Their 8th State Wrestling Title

Wichita, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – Going wire to wire the Garden City Buffalo Wrestling team collected their 8th 6A State Championship over the weekend at the Hartman Arena in Wichita. Garden City finished first with 173.5 points, Junction City 2nd with 125.5 and Derby 3rd at 117.5. The Buffaloes concluded their season with two individual State Champions, freshman Michael Prieto at 106, sophomore Tevin Briscoe at 132 and three runner-up finishes by senior A.J. Hurtado at 138, senior Trevor Kennedy at 145 and senior Anthony Gardner at 170. Garden City also had freshman Alec Castillo place 4th at 126, Sammy Reyes finished 3rd at 195 and Chris Adler took 5th at 152. The rest of the Buffalo grapplers fought hard but came up short in their bid to make it to the medal rounds. Coach Carlos Prieto was selected as the 6A Coach of the Year as well and talks about the State Championship and the people that helped him and the team get their 8th title.
