Dodge City Lady Red Demons Lose Opening WAC Soccer Match

Hays, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – It was not the best weather conditins on Tuesday for any spring sport and it turned out to be a tough beginning for the Dodge City Lady Red Demons Soccer team, losing their opening match of the season 3-1 in Western Athletic Conference play. It was a tight game throughout the first half but the Hays Lady Indians took the lead with a shot from senior Shelby Dinkel to give Hays the
1-0 advantage. Late in the first half Dodge City had a couple of shots on goal by Scarlett Real but had both attempts blocked. Dodge City senior Jaque Gonzales was in the right position to get a sliced ricohet shot to go in and the score was tied 1-1. Later in the first the Lady Indians found a hole in the Dodge City defense and connected on a goal right before half to take a 2-1 lead into intermission. The Indians would tack on another goal late in the 2nd half to win the opening WAC contest 3-1. Its back to Hays on Thursday April 4th for the Dodge City Lady Red Demons to face Thomas Moore Prep in a non-conference match-up.

SOFTBALL/BASEBALL

More sports on Tuesday for the Dodge City spring sports teams had the Lady Red Demon Softball team on the road to Colby. It was a rough start for Dodge City as they were swept by the Lady Eagles 8-6 in game one and 6-0 in the night-cap starting the season 0-2. The Red Demon Baseball team lost game one to the Hays Indians on Tuesday 3-1, but earned a split with the Indians by taking the night-cap 3-0. The Red Demons collected their three runs on five hits, no errors and left 7 runners stranded. The Indians had one hit no runs and 3 errors in the loss. Dodge City will be back in action on Friday entertaining Wichita South.
