GCHS Lady Buff Swim Team 3rd at Manhattan
Manhattan, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – Earning eleven top five finishes and 13 top tens, the Garden City Lady Buffalo Swim team placed 3rd at the tough Manhattan Invitational on Wednesday. The Lady Buffs were led by two 2nd place medals from Claire Schmidt in the 500 yard freestyle, along with the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Claire Schmidt, Katelyn Greene, Alexa Schaffer and Samantha Norton. In a tough 6 team field, Manhattan won the meet with 501 points, Salina South 2nd with 442 and Garden City in 3rd just 27 points back at 415. Additional points were earned from the 200 yard Medley relay team of Ashley Longoria, Claire Schmidt, Lindsey Bradstreet and Alexa Schaffer with a 5th place finish, Schaffer was 3rd in the 200 yard freestyle, Samantha Norton and Claire Schmidt place 3rd and 4th respectively in the 200 yard Individual Medley. Samantha Norton also place 5th in the 100 yard Butterfly, Claire Schmidt and Alexa Schaffer took 2nd and 3rd in the 500 yard freestyle. The Lady Buffs received a 3rd place finish from the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Katelyn Greene, Abigail Ginest-Dougherty, Erika Schafer and Samantha Norton, plus Lindsey Bradstreet and Katelyn Greene going 4th and 5th in 100 yard Breaststroke and Erin Kuneyl, Ashley Longoria, Kailee Stucky and Erika Schafer finished 6th in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Next up for the Lady Buff swimmers is the tough Salina South Invitational on May 2nd.
