Lady Buff Swim Team 2nd in WAC to Great Bend Again

Great Bend, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – The Garden City Lady Buff Swim team fell to their old nemesis Great Bend again for the Western Athletic Conference title on Thursday at the Panthers home pool. Great Bend won 9 of the 12 events and a huge number of top five finishes to rack up 421 points and take the WAC title for the 2nd straight year. The Garden City Lady Buffs finished 2nd with 374 points, Hays was 3rd with 186, Dodge City 4th with 153 and Liberal rounded out the scoring in 5th with 143. The Lady Buffs received a gold medal performance from Samantha Norton in the 100 yard Butterfly 2nd in the 200 IM, runner-up finishes for Katelyn Greene in the 50 yard Freestyle, Lindsey Bradstreet was 2nd in 100 yard Breaststroke and all the relay teams finished 2nd, including the 200 yard Medley with Ashley Longoria, Lindsey Bradstreet, Claire Schmidt and Erika Schaffer; the 200 yard Freestyle Relay team that included, Abigail Ginest-Dougerty, Katelyn Greene, Alexas Schaffer and Samantha Norton; plus the 400 yard Freestyle team of Claire Schmidt, Alexa Schaffer, Katelyn Greene and Samantha Norton. Garden City received and overall total of 18 top five finishes in the meet. Coach Casey Wise states their have many great times and finishes on the season from his young team and State qualifiers will be announced next week.
