Topeka, Kan. (KSHSAA)–The Kansas State High School Activities Association announced Tuesday that Class 4A will be split into two divisions, voted on by current Class 4A members.

In April, the KSHSAA Board of Directors passed the proposal to split 4A into two divisions by a count of 35-27, which was proposed by the Big Seven League. Needing 33 votes to pass, the proposal passes by a 42-22 margin, and it will be adopted. Beginning in the 2013-14 school year, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball will be split into two 4A classifications. Football will see the change in the fall of 2014.

According to the enrollment in the 2012-13 school year from the KSHSAA, Ulysses would be the only team in southwest Kansas in the upper half of the classification. Their closest postseason competition would be Buhler and Wellington. Hugoton would be in the lower division of Class 4A.
