Blues hope to leave their mark

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Finney County 19-and-under Manager Lyle Befort has preached consistency all season long. He hopes his teachings lead the Blues to their first ever trip to the legion state tournament.

“We were able to work on a few things with the time off,” Befort said. “I think we cleared up some flaws; the guys are ready.”

Finney County (24-8) begins play in the zone tournament Tuesday night against Great Bend at Cavalier Field. The goal: pretty simple in Befort’s mind.

“I told these guys that we’re going there to win this thing,” he said. “These guys have never sniffed a state tournament; they’re excited for the opportunity.”

As for the layoff, Finney County has not played a live game in more than a week. They scheduled a doubleheader with Lamar, CO on Wednesday, but the game was canceled because the opposing team didn’t have enough players to field a team.

“I’m confident; this team has a good record,” Befort said. “Hopefully everything will come together for us tonight.”

First pitch is at 5 p.m.
