The Scott City Beavers will host the Lakin Broncs in tonight’s Bi-District game at Darner Field.

Lakin enters tonight’s game with a 5-4 record, and finished second in District 16 with a 48-7 win at Southwestern Heights Thursday night. The Broncs led 20-7 after the first quarter and 41-7 at halftime. They have won three out of their last four games to reach the playoffs for the second time in the last three seasons. All five of Lakin’s wins are on the road, and all four losses have come at home.

Scott City is 8-1 on the season, after they won 54-0 at home Thursday night against the Russell Broncos. The Beavers led 27-0 after the first quarter and the 47-0 at halftime. It was Scott City’s fifth straight district title, and the sixth out of the last eight years. The Beaver ground attack gained 307 yards on the ground as 14 different players carried the ball. Scott City is 22-2 in their last 24 district games

Scott City has won nine straight playoff opening games, dating back to 1998. The Beavers defeated Lakin in the 2006 Bi-District playoff game 45-12 in their only playoff meeting. They also lead the all time series with the Broncs 10-1, and have won four straight, the last coming in 2011. Lakin has not won a playoff game since 1999.

If Scott City wins, they will either host Sacred Heart or travel to Phillipsburg on Saturday, while Lakin would host either school on Saturday with a win tonight.

The eight man division two football playoffs begin tonight when the (5-4) Dighton Hornets visit the (7-2) Fowler Goldbugs.  The main theme of the game could be youth versus experience. Fowler is on a six game winning streak and are led by senior quarterback Taylin Bird who has passed for close to 1500 yards and 32 touchdowns.

On the other side, Dighton freshman quarterback Tyler Lingg has almost 750 yards passing along with eight touchdowns.   The Hornets are also making their first playoffs appearances since 2000.
