Back to the court: Scott City and Hugoton face off

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The 2014 portion of the schedule for Scott City and Hugoton continues tonight at Hugoton High School, as the Beavers and Eagles face off in a GWAC doubleheader.

In the girls game, Scott City is 1-3 overall, and o-1 in the Great West Activities Association, after they fell to Ulysses 37-28 December 20. The Lady Beavers had a rough night shooting, converting only 24% of their shots, as leading scorer Bailey Nickel was held to a season-low 10 points. Hugoton enter’s tonight’s game ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, Division II, and defeated the Colby Eagles December 20 in Hugoton 52-37 to improve to 5-0 overall, 1-0 in GWAC play. The Lady Eagles feature a young lineup, and are led by 5-3 freshman Amy Scott, who averages 17 points a game. 

The nightcap features a 3-1, 1-0 Scott City squad, who is currently ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, Division II, and winners of three straight. Scott City won at Ulysses in their last game 53-32. The Beavers got off to a strong start against the Tigers, scoring 24 first quarter points before cruising to the win. Trey O’Neil leads the team with 25 points, and nearly four assists per contest. Hugoton has eclipsed their win total from last year, as they are 4-1 overall, 1-0 in the GWAC, after they defeated Colby in their last game 67-53. The Eagles are a veteran team, led by Jeison Rodriguez with 15 points and nine rebounds per contest.
