0

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)  It was truly a tail of two different games at Williams Stadium in Garden City on Monday, but in the end the same result. Garden City takes both ends of their doubleheader with Pratt 2-1 in game one and 12-4 in game two. For the Broncbuster the pair of wins improves their conference mark to 5-3 and allows them to sweep the entire four game series with Pratt.

Game one featured a pitching duel between Chris Bonk of Garden City and Evan Payne of Pratt. Rocky DeSantis continued his hot hitting for the Broncbusters with a RBI single in the third to give Garden City a 1-0 lead. Pratt answered in the top of the fourth with a RBI single from eight spot batter Avery Booth to tie the game at 1-1. The Broncbusters would put the go ahead run back when Frankie Alvarez grounder was thrown away by Trevor Trahan attempting to get the third out at first, allowing Kaleb Zimmer to score.

Bonk improved to 4-0 going five innings with five hits and giving up an earned run, striking out eight and walking two. In order to get his fourth win, Bonk needed some defensive help getting a sliding defensive stop from Zac Barton and throw to second ending the fifth. Josh Thomas had to get the final two out of the sixth in striking out both Jacob Hamerle and Justin Crouch with the bases loaded. Thomas after giving up a leadoff single in the seventh inning, forced Pratt to leave the potential tying run at 3rd to end the game in a 2-1 win for Garden City.

Game two saw the offenses start out very slowly. Garden City starter Brooks Trujillo was on fire giving up seven hits and three runs over five innings, but striking out eleven to pick up the win. His only downfall was allowing back-to-back homers to Pratt thirdbaseman Justin Crouch and Scott Alvarez. For Pratt their three run fifth was the only lead of the game. Garden City touched up Beaver starter Corey Mandello and two relivers for six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Rocky DeSantis started it off with a RBI single, Kaleb Zimmer followed one batter later with a two run single to lest.

Tyler Aulitz added a solo homer in the sixth off Beaver reliever Colton Glover, his second blast of the series. Cale Dineen capped off a three run seventh with a RBI single.
