Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) In a dress rehearsal for their conference doubleheader in ten days, the Red Demons (6-1) scored five first inning runs off starter Ivan Gutierrez and rode the strong pitching of Austin Wiser to beat Garden City (4-5) 6-2.

Gutierrez walked the first three batters, Andrew Balderaz scored from third on a throwing error from all-conference catcher Thomas Solorio for the Red Demons first run.  DC Catcher Gideon Wells added a RBI single.  The inning wrapped up with a two run fielding error on Buffs second baseman Eden Arreola and Drew Chance’s RBI single.

Dodge City only scored one more run the rest of the game on Eric Reid’s RBI single in the third that brought in Dawson Davis.  Dodge City’s Austin Wiser was in control retiring ten of eleven coming into the sixth.

Garden City mounted a rally in the inning. The first three batters reached for Garden City in the sixth. Marcus Zapata singled to right, followed by Mitch Hernandez’s double.  Mario Montoya then singled into center scoring Zapata for the first Garden City run.  The inning ended as quickly as it began when Thomas Solorio hit into a 4-6-3 double play.  It scored Hernandez, but cost the Buffaloes any threat of scoring more runs.

Wiser went the distance of seven innings for his second complete game of the season, striking out eleven and allowing seven hits and two runs.  Gutierrez pitched into the third for Garden allowing six runs, three earned and three hits.
