Tough weekend for Buffs softball

Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-One weekend shouldn’t define your season. But for Trinka Moquett’s squad, their two losses in Emporia Friday and Saturday served as a reminder that her team still has a ways to go.

Despite out slugging Andover Central on Friday, Garden City fell 4-1-thanks in large part to a four-run third inning. Two singles and a walk issued by Dusti Befort loaded the bases. Another walk; a fielder’s choice and a couple of sacrifice’s flies turned a scoreless game into a runaway.

Befort still pitched strong-striking out six in a complete-game performance. Those two hits in the third were the only ones she surrendered.

Against Mill Valley on Saturday, the Buffaloes (11-6) had an uphill climb from the start. The Jaguars scored in every inning but the fourth and plated five runs in the third and fifth frames on their way a 16-0, run-rule victory.

Freshman Abbie Dart allowed 10 earned runs on 16 hits and walked three.
