House Explosion Kills 17 Year Old; Investigators Look For Cause

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) A Saturday afternoon house explosion at East Plymell and US 83, ten miles south of Garden City killed one and injured two members of his family.  Authorities say they found the body of a 17 year old Spencer Unruh in the basement. Two other victims in the explosion are Spencer’s 14 year brother Riley Unruh and their mother Kelly Unruh. Both are listed in critical condition at a Wichita Hospital. 

A witness says that the explosion completely destroyed the house and that the remaining debris is from the home next door.  The state fire marshal’s office has been called in to assist with determining the cause of this blast.
