Buffs volleyball eliminated; cross country headed to state

Wichita, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-At mid season, not many people pegged Garden City as a state-tournament threat. But fast forward 30 days, and they gave eventual substate champ Hutchinson all they could handle.

After beating Wichita North 25-11 and 25-18 in the substate semifinals, the Buffaloes (20-17) lost a heart breaker to the Lady Salthawks in the finals 12-25, 25-22 and 25-23.

“I’m so proud of these girls,” Head Coach Abby Piha said afterwards. “The girls responded real well after a rough middle of the season.”

The Buffaloes endured a coaching change halfway through and never folded. In fact, they finished the season 14-7 in their last 21 matches and lost their final set on a foot fault.
