Presentation: Tax Policy Draining State Reserves

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Garden City High School hosted “The Impacts of Changing Kansas’ Tax Policy” Thursday night. Two presenters gave a non-partisan view on how the drive to eventually eliminate taxes for both individuals and small businesses has left the state financially in a mess. Unfortunately with the goal of phasing out half of all taxes, Kansas does not have anything to fall back on.

Annie McKay, Executive Director of the Kansas Center for Economic Growth also points out the tax cuts were regressive.

Since expenditures are exceeding revenues Kansas will have 29 million dollars in the bank next July.
