Buster men stay unbeaten; women back to .500

Men

The Broncbuster men turned a 3-point lead halftime into a double-digit win, leading by as much as 15 in the 2nd half, before finishing off a 77-65 win over Independence.

Antorian Moore powered the Busters with a double-double, 12 points and 11 rebounds, including 6 offensive boards. Davon Anderson led Garden City with 20 points and Tyrell Springer followed with 16. Springer also had 3 steals and handed out 4 assists.

The Broncbusters dominated the glass in the 2nd half and outrebounded the Pirates 40-27. Garden City also had only 8 turnovers to 16 for the visitors.

The Busters shot 41% from the field, but only 20%, 3 out of 15 from 3-point range. Garden City hit 20 of 25 free throws, including 8 of 10 by Davon Anderson.

The Broncbusters improve to 5-0 and will test their record next weekend at the Pepsi Classic in Liberal, taking on Frank Phillips College on Friday and Clarendon College on Saturday.

Women

It was a great weekend at the Buster Shootout for both Garden City Community College basketball teams, as the men and women each won three straight games.

The Lady Broncbusters improved to 3-2 on the year, beating Frank Phillips College 92-80 on Saturday night.

Freshman and Garden City native Tionnia McKee led four Lady Busters in double figures with 29 points on 7 of 13 shooting from the field, 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 12 for 12 from the free throw line. For good measure, 5-foot-5 guard also pulled down 6 rebounds and had 1 steal.

Loysha Morris added 23 points and 7 boards, plus 2 steals; Tori Spann scored 18 points; and Taleah Williams had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, 8 on the offensive glass. Garden City built an 8-point halftime lead and stretched it out to 12 by the final horn.

The Lady Busters shot 52% from the field, 46% beyond the arc, and hit 25 of 31 free throws. Garden City outrebounded Frank Phillips 37-33. The next game for the GCCC women will be Thursday at Clarendon College.
