Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) USD 443 in Dodge City is one of four school districts that brought the lawsuit against the state on education funding. Tuesday the district court in Shawnee County ruled the state needs 548 million dollars more annually to meet their obligation of adequately funding schools. Superintendent Alan Cunningham sizes up how funding has dropped since 2009.
Cunningham knows addressing the problem requires some sacrifices.
Those happiest with the decision are convinced the court is not trying to break the bank.
Cunningham wants the legislature to let the appeals process make its way to the State Supreme Court before ultimately determining how to proceed with handling education funding.
