Garden City Teams Up with Sporting KC On Soccer Facility and Academy

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Commission approved seeking a star bond at Tuesday’s meeting starting a partnership with Sporting Kansas City for a new facility and practice fields. The goal to eventually bring a team academy and semi-pro team to town.

Greg Cotton, General Counsel and Chief of Staff for Sporting KC envisions an extensive youth soccer program along with tournaments that will attract players and their families.

Cotton hopes to have 12-14 tournaments in Garden City each year. Funding for the star bond still needs approval by the State Secretary of Commerce.

Building the facilities is one thing, but when its all said and done Sporting KC will be in charge of the task to find the right instructors in starting up their youth soccer academy in Garden City.

Cotton expects a high number of players in the program.
