James Robert “Bob” Marshall

2901662James Robert “Bob” Marshall, 84, died Friday, January 9, 2015 at his home in Dodge City. 

He was born July 13, 1930 at Sapulpa, Oklahoma the son of Hollis Abel and Lola Ida (Aldridge) Marshall. He was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. A Dodge City resident since 1981, moving from Gahanna, Ohio, he was a Petroleum Engineer for Phillips Petroleum for many years, retiring in 1990. 

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, Board Member for the Dodge City Housing Authority and past Board Member of the Dodge City Senior Center. For 10 years, he volunteered doing taxes with AARP. He enjoyed golf, tennis and bridge. 

On July 13, 1957 he married Patricia Josephine Tall Chief at Fairfax, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death an February 20, 1997. 

Survivors include: 3 sons, Peter, Dodge City, James, Jr. and wife Val, Larned and Patrick and wife Priscilla, Oklahoma City; 3 daughters, Elizabeth Strain and husband Steve, Spearville, Linda Marshall, Spearville and Juanita Marshall, Lawrence, Kansas; and 5 grandchildren, Sage Marshall, Vincent Marshall, Amber Marshall, Kordell Strain and Grace Marshall. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son, Paul and 2 sisters, Dorothy Miller and Virginia Duggan. 

Vigil service will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Thursday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, with Fr. Terrance Klein presiding. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Dodge, Kansas, with full military rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post and Military Honors for the State of Kansas.
