Maxine E. Beery, 84, died January 16, 2015 at The Shepherd’s Center in Cimarron. She was born on November 4, 1930 at Dodge City, the daughter of Verne and Ilene (Dillman) Norton. She grew up on the family farm near Kalvesta. Maxine graduated from Cimarron High School. 

On September 8, 1948 she married A. L. “Bud” Beery. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1987. Maxine was a bookkeeper for various businesses in the area. She enjoyed reading, horse races, playing cards and crossword puzzles. 

Maxine was a member of the Kalvesta United Methodist Church and the Jolly Janes Card Club of Kalvesta. 

She is survived by two sons, Joe Beery and wife Renda of Cimarron and Jack Beery and wife Dixie of Garden City; two daughters, Jan Holland and husband Jim of Sublette and Jean Kramer and husband Jim of Cimarron; 11 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; a brother Alan Norton and wife Sandra of Columbia, Missouri. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Robert Norton and a sister in law Virginia Norton. 

Funeral service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church, Cimarron on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Mike Keating presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron from Noon to 6:00 P.M. Sunday, January 18, 2015. Memorials are suggested to Gray County E.M.S., The Alzheimer’s Assn. or The Shepherd’s Center in care of the funeral home.
