Paul Edward Hendrix, 78 of Lakin died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born July 10, 1936 in Ozawki, Kansas the son of Alvin W. & Elizabeth Irene (Gross) Hendrix.  

Paul grew up in the Ozawki and Perry, Kansas area. He graduated from Perry High School in 1954. He was a veteran having served in the Navy Reserve, active in the Air Force serving in Spain, and the Kansas National Guard. In Paul’s early years, he was a Shawnee County Sheriff’s Deputy and later worked for the Kansas National Guard. He also worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant in DeSoto before moving to Lakin in 1971. After moving to Lakin he managed the Lakin Lumber Company for years and then was the Plant Operations Supervisor for the Kearny County Hospital. Following the Hospital, Paul worked for Kearny County. He was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Lakin; The Masonic Lodge No. 289; Order of the Eastern Star Lakin Chapter 244; and Sportman’s Lake. During his employment at the Kearny County Hospital Paul was a member of the Kansas Hospital Engineer’s Association serving as President for two terms. He was also a lifetime member of the Kearny County Historical Society. Paul enjoyed golfing, woodworking, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.

On September 3, 1961 he married Phyllis Eves in Lakin, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include three sons Bret & wife Sandy Hendrix, Bryant Hendrix, and Brad Hendrix all of Lakin; three brothers Keith Hendrix of Topeka, Ks., Charles & wife Shawna Hendrix of Topeka, Ks., and Loren Hendrix of Overland Park, Ks.; six grandchildren Megan Neubauer, Tyler Hendrix, McKayla Hendrix, Molly Hendrix, Jared Hendrix, and Brady Hendrix; and one great granddaughter Ameera Gay. Paul is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Kenneth Hendrix and Gerald Hendrix.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin with Rev. Rita Stockton officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday all at Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin. The family requests memorials given to the United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas or to the First Presbyterian Church both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
