Delbert Edward Davis

Delbert Edward Davis, 94, passed away at the Shepherd’s Center in Cimarron, Kansas on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. He will be missed by his three children, his 15 grandchildren, his 48 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. 

Delbert was born September 8, 1920, in Montezuma, Kansas, the third of five children born to Carl and Minnie Glaze Davis. He attended elementary school in Cimarron and graduated from Cimarron High School in 1939. 

Delbert served in World War II in the Army Air Force as a Sergeant in the 81st Depot Supply Squadron from August 5, 1942 until he was honorably discharged on November 11, 1945. 

He met and married Ruth Brizzee Hancock in Salt Lake City in 1943. Delbert, Ruth and three children lived as a family in Cimarron, Kansas. Delbert worked as a Farmer, a Mechanic and over 30 years for the ASCS. 

Ruth preceded him in death as well as his parents, one brother, one sister, one son-in-law and one great-grandson. 

Survivors include children, Lola (Jerry) Hudson of Highland, Utah; Karen (Kent, deceased) Wensel of South Jordan, Utah and Wayne Davis of Cimarron, Kansas, one sister Lillian Garetson of Copeland, Kansas, one brother, Dale Davis living in Ukiah, California. 

The family would like to thank those who cared for Dad (Pappy) at the Shepherd’s Center. Your love, kindness and caring attention to Delbert was greatly appreciated. 

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Cimarron Cemetery, Cimarron with remarks and grave dedication by son-in-law, Jerry Hudson and military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and Military Honors for the State of Kansas. A luncheon will follow the graveside at the Senior Center of Gray County on South Main Street. Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 pm Thursday with the family present from 4:30 to 6:00 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to The Shepherds Center or the Cimarron Golf Club both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 446, Cimarron, Kansas 67835.
