Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The bill to overhaul the state funding model for education has passed both houses of the legislature and is waiting the Governor’s signature. USD 457 Superintendent Doctor Rick Atha of Garden City does not like the way this proposal was rushed through.
Now a funding model that has been around since 1992 will be scrapped for bloc grants.
Doctor Rick Atha is confident the school board will have wiggle room in pumping more money in.
The problem is that it could put more of a financial burden on your back.
Atha wanted to reassure teachers that any job losses would happen through attrition.
