Doing What is Best For the Elephants

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The future for elephants, one of the most popular animal attractions at Lee Richardson Zoo is in question. Missy is 46 and Kemba is 33. Both are entering their twilight years and it has been recommended that they be transferred as a pair to another facility. Zoo Director Kristi Newland on the difficult decision that they are forced to make.

Fourteen facilities could take the elephants, they could stay at the zoo or attempts can be made to get a new elephant.

The city commission will make the final decision.
