Edna E. Imel, 88, died March 11, 2015 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on February 15, 1927 in Charleston, the daughter of G.B. and Edith (Thompson) Mitchell. 

Edna was raised in Gray County in the Kavesta-Cimarron area. She graduated from Cimarron High School. On November 28, 1947, she married Delbert C. Imel in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1992. Edna completed her RN training from St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dodge City in 1945. In 1975, Edna completed the Nurse Practitioner’s Program at Wichita State. Edna worked at the Spearville Hospital and the Dodge City Medical Center. She enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, quilting, and gardening, especially growing tomatoes. 

She was a member of the Federated Church of Spearville. 

Edna is survived by a son, Dwight Imel and wife Trisha of Crestline, California; a daughter, Diana Nau and husband Kenny of Spearville; three sisters, Rose Mitchell of Dodge City, Nellie Bell and husband Horace of Florida, Alabama, and Ann Hazelwood of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Jim Imel of Spearville; five grandchildren; and eight grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Delbert, she is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Ed, Charles, and Raymond Mitchell. 

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM with Barney Korbelik, C.R.E. presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from Noon to 6:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Federated Church in care of the funeral home.
