Seward sweeps Buster softball

Liberal, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-There’s been a pretty stark contrast between wins and losses for Garden City softball. When they hit well-they win; when they don’t, it’s gone the other way. On Monday afternoon, Becky Gundy’s bats went silent.

“I’m extremely disappointed in our performance,” Gundy said. “We took a few steps back.”

Seward County pitching allowed just six hits over two games as the Lady Saints rolled to 4-0 and 2-0 victories.

“I felt like we were moving in the right direction,” Gundy added. “But that wasn’t the case.”

The Saints teed off against Garden City starter Rachel Roe, tagging her for nine hits in six innings.

Barb Nigon pitched well in the finale, yielding only two runs on five hits. But the offense produced nothing, with Denise Detlinger and Brooke Lovas providing the only hits.

The losses drop Garden City to 7-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
