Lamar Hammers GCCC 18-4

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Good thing it was a weekday.  The Garden City Community College Baseball team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first, but could not do anything afterwards and fell victim to the big inning in Lamar’s 18-4 win Wednesday afternoon at Williams Stadium.

The game was played only two days before the Broncbusters host Barton for a four game series starting Friday.  Garden City will start this weekend only one game back in the Jayhawk West trailing Butler and tied for second with Dodge City CC.

Game Highlights

Mason Brown continued his hot hitting from the Garden City cleanup spot.  He laced a RBI single to left bringing in Frankie Alvarez for a 1-0 lead in the first.  That lead unfortunately would not last that long.

Lamar added four runs in the second off Garden starting pitcher Tanner Karpinsky to make it 4-1.  Three of those runs came on a bases clearing double from Ellis Kelly.  The shortstop will play at the University of Utah next year.    Lewis and Clark State (ID) standout Brandon Shaffer had a RBI single in the third, one of four hits he had on the day making in 5-1.

A five run fourth inning from Lamar (22-10) blew the game wide open 11-1 off Garden City reliever Michael Dzjurgot.  A double steal of second and home brought in Luke Stratman.  Jeremy Hochmuth was driven in on Adam Adkins RBI double and Shaffer scored two more on his triple.

Adkins followed later with his own RBI triple and the rout was on 12-1.  Two batters later Luis Hernandez singled in Adkins.  Garden City made it a bit more respectable rebounding against (6-3) Walker Williams just moments after a fifth inning where he struck out the side.  Mason Brown scored on a wild pitch.  Jake Tyrakoski infield single scored Cooper Bowermaster and Angelo Perez capped off the scoring with a Sac-Fly.

Garden City reliever Edgar Montoya allowed one hit in the eighth before surrendering five runs on seven hits in the ninth including John Giron 2 run double from the ninth sport in the order.
