George E. Hovey, 72, died June 13, 2015 at his residence in Dodge City. He was born on July 16, 1942 at Montrose, Colorado the son of Bruce James and Wilda (Moore) Hovey. 

George grew up in the Topeka/Auburn area and graduated from Washburn Rural High School. He came to Dodge City in 1971 and was a welder for CrustBuster Speed King in Dodge City for 10 years and then worked at the Dodge City Cooperative Exchange in Ensign as an elevator superintendant retiring in 2004. He married Vonda Peterson on June 7, 1968 in Manhattan. George enjoyed watching Western movies and game shows. 

George was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dodge City and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. 

George is survived by his wife Vonda Hovey, Dodge City; two sons, Michael Hovey, Wright and Carl Hovey and wife Kathleen, Jetmore; A daughter, Catherine Peterson, Dodge City, six grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, James and Gary Hovey and a sister Gayle Hovey. 

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Steve Ormord presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from Noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Dodge City in care of the funeral home.
