J.T. Kent, 44 died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at his home in Lawrence, Kansas. He was born June 8, 1971 in Garden City, Kansas the son of John Duane & Linda (Waller) Kent.
J.T. grew up in Holcomb and attended Holcomb schools. He graduated from Holcomb High School in 1990. He then earned his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Kansas State University. J.T. worked as a graphics art designer for the High Plains Journal, the Kansas City Star, the Garden City Telegram, Garden City Community College and was currently working for the Ottawa Herald. J.T. earned several awards throughout his career as a graphics art designer. He enjoyed art, photography and the outdoors.
On August 11, 2001, he married Dea Johnson in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include three children Prayer Christian of Bonner Springs, Ks., Dea Ana Troy of Osawatomie, Ks., and Lenora Jean of Lawrence, Ks.; and his mother and step-father Linda & Stanley Katz of Garden City, Ks. J.T. is preceded in death by his father John Duane Kent.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with Pastor Mary Fabin officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
