Ralph E. Herrell, 88 died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born January 2, 1927 in Fairview, Kansas the son of William T. & Rosa (Farley) Herrell.
Ralph moved with his family to Garden City in the 1940’s. He has lived in Garden City since. He served in the United States Army from September 1950 to September 1952. Ralph worked as a television repairman for most of his life. He worked mostly for Modern Radio & TV. After his retirement, Ralph worked for 17 years as a school bus driver for USD #457. He enjoyed watching western movies, feeding the squirrels, word search puzzles, car races, gardening, taking photographs with his wife, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
On August 15, 1953, he married Ida M. Shrimplin in Holcomb, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include six children Debbie & husband Reme Lefort of Garden City, R. Thomas & wife Lori Herrell of Garden City, Greg & wife Paula Herrell of Garden City, Mark Herrell of Garden City, Becky Quint of Shawnee, Ks., and Susan & husband Mike Headley of Garden City; two sisters Dorothy Fisher of San Jacinto, Ca. and Leilla Cowles of Garden City; a brother Jack & wife Carolyn Herrell of Canon City, Co.; 16 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents; two sons David Herrell and William Jared Herrell; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at First Assembly of God in Garden City with Pastor Nathan Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Reserves Army National Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the Finney County Humane Society or to First Assembly of God both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
