Hugoton, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Usually one person greets another by asking, what is up? When it comes to what is going on in Hugoton, Stevens County Economic Development Director Neil Gillespie wants people to pose a different question, what is new?
Why all this economic success? Gillespie believes the year old cellulosic ethanol plant had something to do with it.
The plant is not all Hugoton did to build on their solid economic success. The tide started to turn a couple of years prior.
Gillespie thinks the combination of agriculture and gas both have pushed Hugoton’s economy along and attracted others to relocate into the community.
