School Board Considers Increase to Mill Levy, Schedule Change For High School

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Stretch to its limit and turned down for most of the emergency funding they were seeking from the state the school board at USD 457 in Garden City is calling for up to a 4 mill increase to 52 mills.  Superintendent Doctor Steven Karlin believes a recent trend is shifting the burden to local taxpayers.

Also discussed at Monday night’s school board meeting was consolidating the block schedule at the high school to a seven period day.  District Public Information Coordinator Roy Cessna weighed the pros and cons.

Teachers strongly favor the proposed change, but it is unclear when the school board will take any action.
